This project is being rebid after a prior bid opening in May 2022. At that time, several questions were asked regarding the project. Please see answers below:
- Question: IDOT Highway Standard BLR14-13 PORTLAND CEMENT CONCRETE PAVEMENT (NONREINFORCED) is included in the plans. The standard specifies dowel bars at transverse and longitudinal joints. Is this a requirement of the project?
- Answer: Dowel bars shall only be required at construction joints. Dowel bars are not a requirement for contraction or expansion joints. Dowel bars shall be #4 reinforcement bars at 24” centers.
- Question: IDOT Highway Standard BLR14-13 PORTLAND CEMENT CONCRETE PAVEMENT (NONREINFORCED) is included in the plans. The standard specifies joint sealer at all sawcut joints. Is this a requirement of the project?
- Answer: Joint sealer is not a requirement of this project.
Several additional questions were submitted for this proposal. Answers are below. No further questions will be accepted prior to the bid opening tomorrow. Thank you all again for your interest in this project.
- What seeding mix, fertilizer rates, and mulch method should be used for the pay item SEEDING (COMPLETE)?
- See Special Provision for SEEDING (COMPLETE).
- What is the thickness of the existing pavement?
- The existing pavement thickness is unknown. Assumed between 3-5 inches due to the extensive cracking and raveling at the edges.
- Can the existing gravel onsite be reused as AGGREGATE BASE COURSE, TYPE B?
- No. The existing aggregate may be stockpiled and used to construct the temporary staging entrances/areas, but not as the base for the new pavement.
- How do the proposed corner elevations compare to existing? Will additional grading be needed to make up a difference in elevation?
- In general, the proposed elevations match existing along the edges, however there are some isolated areas with elevation differences between 3-6 inches. Assume there will be some minor grading around the edges to make up any differences in elevation. This grading will not be measured for payment and will be included in the cost of the various pay items involved per the BACKFILLING special provision.
A question was asked regarding the number of parking blocks going back into the parking lot. See below:
There are 14 existing parking blocks onsite in acceptable condition as of October 2022. For your bids, please assume that all 14 will be reinstalled – preferably within the 14 (2 ADA, 12 regular) new striped parking stalls along the east and west walls of the health center building. Final placement will be at the discretion of the Engineer
