Mayor Jenkins called to open the public hearing Business district #1 at 6:30 p.m.
Keith Moran, Moran Economic Development, stated that the business district is not a TIF but a sales tax base infrastructure. The sale tax may be used within the business district for streets, sidewalks, storm sewer and infrastructure. The city also needs to look at the I74 interchange and use increase sales tax money to recruit more businesses to look at this area.
Farmer City has the lowest sales tax and will still be lower with the proposed sales tax increase. Examples are: Champaign 9%, Urbana 9%, Bloomington 7.25%, Mahomet 8.5% and Mansfield 7.5%
Mr. Moran opened floor at 6:38 p.m. for questions about business district number 1.
Question from floor about the TIF process and Mr. Moran stated that this hearing is for a business district and not TIF.
