The new residential waste and recycling program will begin this Thursday, May 3, 2018. We have received many calls and inquiries regarding this service, so we hope to help address them in this Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ’s) post:
When does garbage service start? The morning of Thursday, May 3, 2018 – you may place the totes curbside the night before but they cannot be curbside for more than 48 hours
When does recycling service start? The morning of Thursday, May 3, 2018
Do we recycle every week too? No, recycling is picked up every other Thursday beginning May 3, 2018. The calendar is available in this post, at the back on the Area contract posted on the City’s website, posted at City Hall and will be mailed with the newsletter.
What goes in the recycling bin? Paper including paperboard, magazines, plastic, metal including aluminum cans, aerosol cans and glass including colored and clear glass – the items do not and should not be placed in a garbage bag – you may simply put them in the tote without pre-sorting
Where do I place my bins for pickup? The bins must be placed curb-side, not in the alley except for residences on downtown Main Street
What if I need more bins? You may rent more bins by calling Area Disposal for $2.50 per bin per month
How do I change my bin size? You will need to call Area Disposal at 217-893-3675
