The City of Farmer City is pleased to announce the hiring of David Betz as its new Police Chief. Lt. Betz enjoyed a successful 31-year career with the City of Chicago before retiring and moving to Decatur.
Betz worked in nearly all areas of police work in Chicago from gang investigations to patrol. He holds a Master’s degree in Police Psychology from Adler School of Professional Psychology and a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Illinois at Chicago.
His latest assignment, before retiring, was the Assistant Director of the Fusion Center for the Chicago Police Department, which dealt with handling sensitive situations, supervising 75 sergeants and coordinating responses to local protests and other incidents. This position gave him great experience working closely with community stakeholders and residents.
Betz said he is very excited and humbled by the opportunity and said, “I will use my 31 years of law enforcement experience to move the Farmer City Police Department forward with technology, training and good police practices.”
City Manager Sue McLaughlin says, “The City is looking forward to working with Chief Betz to create a synergy between the police department and the community. We believe he brings the skills needed to continue the great works started by former Chief Scott.”
Betz will begin his watch on Monday, December 3, 2018. Please contact City Manager Sue McLaughlin at (309) 928-3412 with questions. Thank you
