Refuse and Recycling Pickup Program
The City of Farmer City has adopted a new program for all single family residences to utilize a single garbage hauler for refuse and recycling pickup. In this way, the City was able to help lower the monthly cost for garbage collection and provide recycling and curbside bulk waste pickup. More information will become available soon, but here is a list of Frequently Asked Questions:
Area Disposal Residential-only Refuse and Recycling
The new refuse & recycling program will begin the week of
April 30, 2018 (May 3, 2018 to be exact)
Area Disposal will be reaching out to every residence with information regarding the program in the coming months
Area Disposal will provide 1-96 gal refuse and 1-96 gal recycling tote – you also may choose a smaller tote. If you need more, you can rent them for $2.50/ea Refuse will be picked up weekly; Recycling will be picked up every other week
There is no additional cost above $14.75 for 2018 (unless renting extra totes) – no taxes, no extra fees to resident
Any finance charges for late utility payments will only be applied to electric, water and sewer usage as currently handled
There will be a new line item on the utility bill for this service
A form will be provided to qualify for the senior citizen discount
Yard waste will be picked up
(1) 2 weeks in spring, 2 weeks in fall dependent on weather
(2) must be placed in biodegradable kraft lawn bags or waterproof plastic/metal containers
(3) brush pickup on the last Wednesday of every month will remain as is
Area Disposal will provide a customer service number to address any concerns or questions. Our contract with them requires them to keep us up to date on complaints and how they are addressed. The City will also have a direct line with a municipal representative to address concerns and emergencies.
DO YOU NEED A RIDE?
OK folks, its crunch time. Winter is fast approaching and we I know there are people out there who don’t drive or don’t drive out of town so, how are you getting your groceries?
I have transportation available for you to be picked up and taken to Clinton to shop at IGA or Save-A-Lot. You can also go to Walmart or anywhere you want to shop for other things beside groceries.
This bus is handicap accessible so if you are in a wheelchair you can ride. If you would like to sign up for rides or want more information about this give me a call at 309-928-9400.
His and Hers Dinner
On Sat., Dec. 2, the American Legion Joe Williams Post 55 in Farmer City will be serving their His & Hers Dinner starting at 5p and serving your choice of rib eye steak or chicken until 7p. You may purchase your tickets at the door. The Legion is located at 755 Stensel Dr. and Rt. 150 near the fairgrounds on the north edge of Farmer City. Carryout is available, either in person or call ahead to 309-928-3055.

PUBLIC LIBRARY UPDATE
After 20 years of service our director, Catherine Hoffman, will be retiring Dec. 22.
Please stop by the library to extend good wishes.
Downtown Christmas Events
Santa will be in his house on the square Nov., 26 , Dec 9 and Dec. 15, Goodies bags and cookies for each child.
Christmas Tree Decorating contest on Sun., Nov. 26 using the trees in the lot by the Santa House. Trees are limited so reserve yours early.
You are welcome to bring your own tree, but you will be responsible for setting it up, I can arrange for it to be given to a needy family if you don’t want it back.
I would love to have carolers on the square during the tree decorating contest, free hot chocolate, and a few games.
On Fri., Dec. 15, Free horse and carriage rides around the square. I would also like Carolers, and of course free hot chocolate.
I would love suggestions or other ideas to make this a fun activity for the whole Family.

Outreach is going to offer a Make – it Take- it
On Dec. 2, at 1 pm Outreach is offering a make- it- take- it where participants will be making a Christmas wreath using the popular mesh that everything is made from now. If you would like to join us give me a call and reserve your spot as class size is limited. These wreaths are beautiful and can be used year after year so call 309-928-9400 and reserve your spot now.

2017 Christmas Shop
Outreach will once again host their Christmas shop for families that are struggling to make ends meet. We know how important it is to make the Holidays fun and exciting for the little ones so we offer a shopping experience for parents or legal guardians to shop for their children free of charge. To make this possible we ask for donations so we can buy toys and gifts for children 6 mos. To 12 years. If you would like to donate please drop off at Outreach or mail to Outreach, P.O. Box 101, Farmer City, IL 61842. All donations need to be into Outreach by Nov. 30.
The date of this year’s Christmas Shop is Dec. 9 with doors opening at 9 am and will close at 12 pm. To be eligible children MUST be in the Blue Ridge School district.
Fruit sales once again at Outreach
Outreach is once again taking orders for fresh fruit that will be delivered the second week of Dec., in time for Christmas giving. This fruit is wonderful! Very juicy and if kept cool will last a long time. We have some new items this year, Honeycrisp apples, Mangos, Maple Cherry Elk bites, White Cheddar and Jalapeno Ranch Cheese curds. Volunteer Opportunity – Sewing
Do you like to sew? Can’t sew but could cut out a pattern? We will be making Angel Gowns.
At Outreach in the near future (date to be decided) and welcome anyone interested in helping to give me a call at 309-928-9400. Angel Gowns provide comfort to bereaved families through the gift of a beautiful custom made gown for final photos and burial services.
Angel Gowns are made from donated wedding gowns so if you or someone you know would like to donate a gown please have them contact Outreach at 309-928-9400.
Help needed
Outreach is in need of someone to clean the activity room. This is a volunteer position and will require you to dust, vacuum, and mop three small tile areas. It takes an hour to hour and a half and is only required once a week. If you are interested just stop by and speak with Sharon or give a call to 309-928-9400.
Like to play cards?
We have had some people ask about getting together to play cards so I have set aside Thur. afternoons from 1 to 3 or 4 for that purpose. Give me a call and let me know if you are interested. This will be weekly/ bi weekly, whatever the group decides after getting started. This sounds like a fun time and good socialization. Again, let me know your thoughts 309-928-9400.
